47. Research to Practice. I CAN . . . Help My Child Stay Healthy, a Health Literacy Program for Families with Young Children

"I CAN" is an exciting health literacy training program for Head Start families. Central Missouri Community Action Head Start was awarded a $1.1 million grant through the Office of Head Start in 2008. The "I CAN" program has saved Head Start families hundreds of dollars each year. "I CAN" trainings provide parents with knowledge, confidence, and resources to care for common childhood illnesses at home. The goal of "I CAN" is to decrease school and work days missed and reduce unnecessary ER and clinic visits.
